Posted: 20 Aug 2010 Has anyone ever heard of grassie musk/excreta causing any irritation or other unwanted effects to the skin? Also, how good are these alcohol-based gels or sprays or wipes at removing the smell. I just use cold water myself but have been asked to provide advice to a risk-averse, health and safety conscious organisation! Matt Gwent Amphibian and Reptile Group (GARG) |

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 Hey Matt, After a day of catching grass snakes I once stupidly rubbed my eyes, that was somewhat painful/debilitating for a while. Apart from that I haven't experienced any other effects. I've generally smelt like grass snake excrement for most of this year. Due to the hot conditions it tends to have soaked into my pores so cold water doesn't work for me. When I do try to remove the smell I use industrial () antibacterial wipes, followed by antiseptic liquid and rinse off with water. I dont know if the smell is removed or just masked but it works and my hands couldn't be any cleaner! Why are such an organisation handling grass snakes anyway hehe? |
